Aitutaki Beaches

Aitutaki Beaches

With its beautiful azure lagoon, Aitutaki is regarded by many as being one of the most stunningly gorgeous islands in the Pacific Ocean. Often referred to as the Bora Bora of the Cook Islands, Aitutaki is a fantastic retreat with its exquisite unspoiled beaches and wealth of underwater marine life. The ultimate vacation destination for many with its tranquil surroundings, Aitutaki is the perfect place to escape to.

The beaches on Aitutaki are some of the best in the world, as much of the landscape here remains pristine and untouched by tourism. An excellent place to kickback and relax, Aitutaki’s beaches are terrific whether you just want to have a swim or sunbathe along the seashore. The beaches on the northwestern coast of the main island are some of the most perfect on Aitutaki, with some wonderful swimming opportunities as well as chances to explore the surrounding coral reef.

Towards the southern end of the island, the beaches are a lovely sandy white with plenty of palm trees, while along Aitutaki’s eastern coast the shore is pretty rugged and tidal with no real swimming prospects. Some of the best beaches of Atituaki are on its many surrounding motu. These tiny atolls are home to a number of beautiful beaches, all of which have white sand with towering coconut palms. Easily accessible during the low tide which allows you to walk from isle to isle, these motu have fantastic lagoons for snorkeling and swimming in, making them the ideal spot for an afternoon picnic.

Tapuaeta’i more commonly known as One Foot Island is considered by many to have the best beach in the world. The waters here are a clear and brilliant light turquoise with the sand a pure white. Another great beach on Aitutaki is Kaiami Bef imach on the Akaiami motu. A great way to see all the picturesque beaches on Aitutaki is to take a lagoon cruise around this ‘almost atoll’ and discover all the beauty that this tiny island and its neighboring islets have to offer.
