Accommodations on Cook Islands

Accommodations on Cook Islands

Whether you are in the mood for a romantic island getaway or a quiet secluded escape, the Cook Islands is the ideal place to relax your cares away. With its palm fringed white sandy shores, tropical climate, turquoise blue lagoons, and friendly locals, this tiny Southern Pacific island group is rated as the ultimate vacation destination by many. Add to this its wide assortment of quality accommodations, the Cook Islands make for a superb holiday retreat.

Home to a number of fine hotels and resorts, tourists can find plenty of bungalows, lodges, inns, cottages, cabins, apartments and motels to rent out here as well. And the best part about vacationing in the Cook Islands is that affordable too! Here you do not have to worry about expensive vacation resorts or holiday villas; rather you can find plenty of accommodations to suit your budget and taste. Room rentals usually start from NZ$140 and upwards.

Offering good value for money, most of the accommodations on Cook Islands are located on the island of Rarotonga, with only a few hotels and resorts found on the atoll of Aitutaki. The island of Atiu has a just a small number of rental properties to hire, while on islands such as Mangaia, Manihiki and Penrhyn there are only a few guesthouses. If you wish to stay on any of the other islands, you may have to stay with the locals as there are not many places to rent out or hire.

Peak tourist season in the Cook Islands is between the months of November and January, with many visitors coming here from Australia and New Zealand. If you wish to travel to the Cook Islands around this time, please make sure to book your hotel or accommodation in advance, as most resorts tend to be pretty much full. A good idea is to search for an all inclusive vacation package with airfare and accommodations.

On Rarotonga, hotels and resorts can be found pretty much all around the island, with most accommodations located on the beach side of the coastal road. And while plenty of the hotels are beach front properties, there are a number of places to stay at on the mountain side. On Aitutaki, accommodations are mostly concentrated along the atoll’s southern, western and northwestern coast.
