Cook Islands Climate
With a climate similar to that of Hawaii, the
Cook Islands have sunny tropical weather most of the year. Located
below the equator in the southern hemisphere, the seasons here are
reversed, which means that November through April are summer months,
while May through October is winter in the Cook Islands.
The climate here is pleasant throughout the year, with brief heavy
downpours between December and March, which coincide with cyclone
season. During this period it rains quite a lot and can get rather
humid. Winter is a good time to visit, with pleasant summer days
and cool nights. A light jumper or sweater is sometimes necessary
in the late evening.
If you are visiting the Cook Islands between November and April,
look forward to bright sunny days with sticky afternoons. On Rarotonga,
rain clouds can be seen throughout the year, especially in the interior
of the island, but don’t worry as the coast is more often than
not clear and sunny. One downside to summers in the Cook Islands is
more mosquitoes.
April, May, September, and October are usually regarded as the best months to visit with an ideal blend of sunshine and pleasant weather.
